Targeted projects
When it was created, the French national research program on Nature-based Solutions identified seven targeted projects to be implemented:
Calls for projects
Several calls for projects (AAP) and calls for expressions of interest (AMI) are planned under SOLU-BIOD to support French research on Nature-based Solutions (NbS):
- 1 AAP scheduled in 2025 (with a second wave of project funding expected in 2027) will support collaborative research projects on four major scientific challenges related to NbS:
- The role of genetic diversity and evolutionary potential for NbS at different scales
- Social processes at work in NbS (rules, governance, etc.)
- Evaluation of NbS performance & mechanisms for upscaling
- Scenarios and models for NbS in a changing environment
- 1 AMI and 1 AAP, scheduled from 2027 onwards, will support the creation of new living labs on NbS
- 1 AMI and 1 AAP (AAP ANR Challenge type), scheduled from 2028 onwards, will aim to accelerate innovation in the design and implementation of NbS
- 1 ongoing AAP will support and assist the French scientific community by funding the development of networks to respond to European calls for projects on the theme of NbS.

Projects Towards a Systemic Integration of NbS
In addition to the targeted projects of the SOLU-BIOD program, a call for research projects was launched in March 2025 to address the main scientific challenges identified over the course of the program. Structured around four priority themes, this call led to the selection, following evaluation by an international jury, of nine major interdisciplinary projects:
Governance
In addition to its research projects, the National Research Program on Nature-based Solutions carries out several cross-cutting initiatives as part of its governance. These initiatives aim to engage the scientific community, foster collaboration and knowledge exchange, and strengthen the organization and integration of knowledge.
