VIVALP Living lab
The VIVALP living lab studies Nature-based Solutions (NbS) applied to mountain socio-ecosystems—from valleys to peaks, and from inhabited areas to strictly protected zones—including the Meije region, the Trois Vallées, and the Champsaur.
Topics covered by VIVALP
- Biodiversity conservation
- Adaptation to climate change
- Health and well-being of residents and users
- Natural Hazard Management

Priority scientific questions
The VIVALP living lab’s activities are structured around four main questions, which will be addressed through a number of initiatives:
- How can protected areas help create and expand NbS?
- What are the benefits and costs of certain NbS for biodiversity and for different types of mountain users?
- What factors facilitate the implementation of specific NbS, their development, and their synergistic benefits for biodiversity and communities?
- How do different NbS interact within a region, and how can we promote the creation of SfN networks at various levels?

The actions carried out by the living lab
The VIVALP living lab organizes its activities around six main topics:
- Conduct a socio-ecological assessment of the region to identify its strengths and weaknesses in terms of its ability to respond sustainably to climate and biodiversity crises through the NbS.
- Identify existing NbS groups, analyze the costs and benefits of existing and planned NbS for biodiversity and different types of users.
- Testing the implementation of new NbS.
- Analyze the synergies and trade-offs between NbS within each territory.
- Co-producing scenarios for the development of NbS and regional development pathways with local and regional stakeholders, based on these scenarios.
- Collaboratively develop strategies to expand and enhance existing NbS and identify factors that facilitate their networking and expansion.
