DataNat Lunaret
The DataNat Lunaret project aims to collaboratively build a Geographic Data Infrastructure (GDI) to inventory and analyze the numerous Nature-based Solutions (NbS) implemented throughout the Greater Lunaret Park (including the research campus, the zoo, the Montmaur Woods, and La Valette). The project addresses a shared concern among site stakeholders, who have expressed the need to bring together existing initiatives (green corridors, riparian forest restoration, de-impermeabilization, invasive species management, agroecological practices) and to have an open-source tool to better assess their impacts on biodiversity, health, user well-being, and environmental risks.
As part of this initiative, an internship funded by the City of Montpellier is helping to map the NbS and related data, in collaboration with the various project leaders and data collectors (nonprofits, scientists, schools, consulting firms, local government agencies, etc.) at this site.
The project is part of the GeOMEES initiative, a research project led by the Montpellier Observatory of Ecology and Health Evolution (OMEES), with the goal of organizing transdisciplinary research on the links between biodiversity and health. In cooperation with LLUNAM, this project aims to transform the Grand Parc de Lunaret into a living laboratory for the co-experimentation and co-evaluation of SfN, by using data to inform decision-making and mediation.
