Action 8

Anticipating the performance of Nature-based Solutions in the decades to come

How can Nature-based Solutions enhance the resilience of socio-ecosystems to global change?

Led by the University of Grenoble Alpes and co-led by INRAE, this action aims to support the development of a new generation of integrated socio-ecosystem and Nature-based Solutions (NbS) models. It will also enable the creation of a set of plausible scenarios for the deployment and functioning of NbS in the face of global change challenges.

This program action will generate major advances enabling the anticipation of NbS performance and their capacity to provide solutions to global change challenges. It will be supported and guided by a group of experts — composed of modelers, researchers from various disciplines, and societal actors — who will help refine the priority research questions for this theme. These research questions will inform the governance of SOLU-BIOD, which will prepare in 2025 a call for projects addressing this scientific challenge. They will also lead to the establishment of a dedicated working group, such as a knowledge hub, that will focus on syntheses and meta-analyses on these topics.

The early involvement of diverse stakeholders, as well as of the French network of living labs on Nature-based Solutions, will make it possible to co-develop scenarios and facilitate the uptake of results by societal actors.
