Social Processes and Dynamics
Action 6
Legal norms and regulations, financial instruments, and systems of perception and governance for the success of Nature-based Solutions
Led by the University of Lyon 1 and co-led by Sorbonne University, this action aims to promote cutting-edge research in the social sciences and humanities combined with biological and ecological approaches to address questions such as:
- What are the dominant discourses in the field of Nature-based Solutions (their potentials and limitations for developing NbS)?
- How do legal norms and regulations currently support, or need to evolve to better address, the challenges of NbS?
- Which financial, political, governance, and perception frameworks and tools are involved in the development and performance of NbS?
This program action will be supported and guided by a group of experts (in law, sociology, governance systems, ethics, economics, etc.) who will help identify priority research questions to better recognize and integrate social processes into the Nature-based Solutions approach. These priority research questions will guide support for collaborative research projects, working groups such as knowledge hubs, and syntheses/meta-analyses on these topics. This action will be developed in synergy with program partners, notably IUCN-France and CDC Biodiversité, as well as with SOLU-BIOD living labs.
