Living labs
Action 3
Facilitate the French network of living labs on Nature-Based Solutions
Addressing the scientific challenges of Nature-Based Solutions (NbS) requires inter- and transdisciplinary consortia, deeply rooted in local territories. The program thus supports living labs as innovative tools to profoundly transform the practice of NbS research.
Led by CNRS and co-managed by INRAE, this structuring initiative of the program aims to study and evaluate NbS in local territories through the establishment of a national network of living labs. These structures promote the co-construction of NbS between scientists and stakeholders.
This support will be carried out in two stages:
- Structure and strengthen emerging living labs on NbS for the four types of socio-ecosystems identified within the program through the targeted project ‘National Network of Living Labs’.
- Launch an open call for new living labs in 2027.

The goal is to foster continuous and inclusive engagement among all relevant disciplines and stakeholders. To achieve this, the program will use both top-down approaches (living labs pre-identified by the program’s steering committee) and bottom-up approaches (suggestions from the scientific community).
SOLU-BIOD will organize meetings between these living labs to share experiences and promote joint actions. The living labs will also serve as demonstrators of the practicality and performance of NbS.
